Red Mountain Summit Trail Hike and Cookout
This event is a benefit for the Crested Butte Land Trust,
hosted by Rocky Kimball and Mary Lou Skinner.
For over 30 years, the Crested Butte Land Trust has worked with partners to preserve scenic vistas, wildlife habitats, our ranching heritage,
and recreational opportunities.
Jake Jones, Executive Director of CBLT
and former professional mountain guide,
and Greg Glosser, Red Mountain Board President,
will shepherd the sojourn.
Peter Dea, Geologist, and CBLT Board Member
will join us and explain the fascinating geology
that makes Red Mountain “Red.”
He will also explain the volcanic origins of the basalt boulder fields
that we will cross on the hike.
For those who might want a less demanding hike,
we will divide at the Glosser Spur and go to the vista/overlook
or head to the 11,670' Red Mountain summit.
There will be light snacks and trail fuel for the hike,
but upon our return, we will enjoy drinks, hors d’oeuvres,
and a catered cookout by Chef Dana Zabs.
Suggested donation: $250/person to attend.
All proceeds will benefit the Land Trust.
We expect Red Mountain Ranch homeowners to fill the limited spaces,
but we will expand our invitation list
beyond our immediate Red Mountain Ranch community on May 15, 2024.
Hike: 8:30 AM at the Summit Trail Trailhead
Cookout: Skinner/Kimball Cabin
